I started wood burning in 2010 after being given the tools as a gift. I quickly learned that the technique was exactly what I liked most about art: Simple, precise, warm and natural. Wood-burning is mostly a hobby to me. I’m a full time gardener by trade, taking care of estates and home gardens all along the coast in Rhode Island. During the winter months, when the gardens are put to bed, I finally have time to indulge in my art. Wood-burning is well suited to cold dark days, it warms the room and fills the house with a sweet campfire aroma. It’s a very slow process that can’t be rushed. That is one of my favorite things about wood burning. It forces me to stop my usual fast paced chaotic life and just enjoy doing one thing at a time. Layer upon layer of color slowly turn into something that looks almost alive on the wood and amazes me every-time. I have been fly-fishing since I was five years old and a lot of my work is inspired by trout or other fish. My art is for sale at the Amazing Umbrella Factory Artisan Loft in Charlestown, RI, here in my online store or through my home studio.
